Lead Pass Grind – Passing

Set Up: There are four players set up in the small grid, starting at the cones.
Procedure: Player B begins the drill with a run towards the opposite cone, and Player A plays the ball across the grid for him to run onto. After receiving, Player B passes square to Player A, and they turn and repeat the lead pass exchange back to the start. Players C and D take the next turn, as Player A > D and Player B > C.

Teaching Topics:
1 Timing the run.
2 Passing.
3 Speed of play.

Progressions:
1 No square pass. Only use diagonal lead passes.

Coaching Points:
1 The receiver initiates the pass by making the run into space ahead of the ball.
2 When passing, check for the target one last time just before you strike the ball.
3 The pass should not slow the receiver down. He should have to sprint onto it.
