Coaching Bio:
Coach Matteo is the current Head Boys Soccer Coach at Absegami High School. He played for Rutgers University where he was a goalkeeper for the Division 1 team earning American Athletic Conference All Academic Honors in 2013. After graduating with a degree in Exercise Science and Psychology in 2014, Coach Matteo went on to play for the Ocean City Nor’easters Reserves and for Phoenix SC in the United Soccer League of Pennsylvania. While with Phoenix, he participated in numerous state cup games and in Lamar Hunt Open Cup Qualification and continued to play up until this past season.
As a coach, his career started in 2014 when he returned to Pitman High School to be a boys’ varsity assistant and train the goalkeepers. In his only season there, Pitman’s GK earned All-Conference, All-SJ, and All-State. The following year he became the Head Girls’ Coach at Pitman leading them to a 21-20-1 record in two seasons in charge followed by a season in charge of the Holy Spirit Boys’ Soccer team. Coach Matteo then went on to be an Assistant Boys’ Coach at Buena before coming to Absegami to be an Assistant Girls’ Coach last season.
When not coaching at the high school level, Coach Matteo can be seen training goalkeepers at Philadelphia Lone Star FC. He helped start the Women’s team in 2019 where they finished runners-up in the Mid-Atlantic Conference and his currently the goalkeeper coach for their WPSL, NPSL, and USL League Two teams. Coach Matteo is also a member of United Soccer Coaches, serving as a member of the Disability Allies Advocacy Group. Recently, Coach Matteo was named Technical Director for Arsenal Football Development, USA Summer Camps working directly with Arsenal FC in London to deliver youth academy training sessions to US players. He also works as a Camp Director for Nike Soccer Camps and holds numerous licenses from USSF, United Soccer Coaches, and NFHS
